This Day In Information: Streaming Digital Media

Today in 2007, Netflix announced its billionth DVD delivery. Today, Netflix says its 20 million subscribers mostly stream rather than rent DVDs and that they “deliver many times more hours by streaming than DVD-by-mail.”

Today in 2010, Apple announced that its has sold the ten billionth song through its iTunes Store since the service’s launch in 2003. It took Apple over five years to sell its first five billion songs but only a year and a half to sell its second five billion songs. In January 2007, Apple announced it sold 50 million TV episodes through iTunes, rising to 200 million by October 2008. And last month, Apple announced that 10 billion apps have been downloaded from iTunes, up from 10 million in July 2008.
